What is tempera?
Tempera was the commonest technique before oil painting was invented in the 15th century. It is powder color mixed with egg yolk. Some artists use it even today (tempera in romanian is colors like paste to make desen is used more in primare school). Also known as egg tempera, is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigment mixed with a water-soluble binder medium (usually a glutinous material such as egg yolk or some other size).
